A popular event at the end of winter in neighboring Indiana County is the Family Fun Fest held each year at the Indiana Mall. This year’s date is Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
For the past two years, the Weather Discovery Center has participated in Family Fun Fest with a booth display of our hands-on weather activities, including our popular lightning machine–the Van de Graff generator.
This year, the theme at Family Fun Fest is S.T.E.A.M.: science, technology, engineering, art and math. We will be there again with our activities, but in addition, this year we will present one of the shows on the center stage. “Thunder & Lightning–Not So Frightening” will explore the science of lightning and thunder, presenting the information in an easy-to-understand, hands-on way that will help children to understand and not be afraid of these aspects of weather. The show will begin at 11 a.m.
Family Fun Fest is free to attend and features more than 60 booths with activities and information for families and children, petting zoo, exploration area, food court and much more. The event is organized by the Children’s Advisory Commission of Indiana County.
