Weather Center Forecasts Two New Meteorologist Hall of Famers

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

The Spirit PUNXSUTAWNEY — For the third year in a row, the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center will hold an induction ceremony for its Meteorologist Hall of Fame. However, this year, there isn’t one inductee; there are two. The inductees are Richard J. Kane, a warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, and Stephanie Abrams, a co-host of “Abrams & Bettes — Beyond the Forecast” and “Evening Edition” on The Weather Channel. In 2007, the Weather Discovery Center welcomed its first Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. Joel N. Myers, who founded AccuWeather in 1971, which has become known as the world’s leading commercial weather service. Last year, Jeff Verszyla, the chief meteorologist at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, was the Hall’s second inductee. The induction for Abrams and Kane will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Center.
